I am even thinking of rewatching it yearly…
Serial experiments lain op vs ed series#
This series is undoubtable very rewatchable and actually benefits from it, as each rewatch will probably bring some new information to the viewer.

The art was always brilliantly paired with an equally amazing soundtrack, and this incredible fusion was comptently used to create some gorgeus and extremely atmospheric scenes.Įven its weakest aspects, such as the voice acting, were still fairly good and didn’t bring down any of the other aspects of the show. The most amazing aspect of it were, for me, the eyes, which told the audience a lot about the characters. The way the story is told creates a strange pacing, which weirdly makes the episodes seem uneventful, even with all the visual stimulation this show has.ĭespite the fact that the show is more than a decade old, the visual style is ridiculously beautiful and exhales personality. This is a story that is told more by images than by words, but the writing was still fairly good.
Serial experiments lain op vs ed full#
I found myself loving this aspect of the show, as it demanded my full attention and created a desire to over-analyze everything that I saw. These symbols will seem to be quite random at first, but they are actually pretty deep and make the story a lot more enjoyable. The story is chock-full of symbolism, which makes the series seem trippy, but actually creates a lot of possible interpretations to it. The main story is completely unique and builds tension masterfully, but at times can be hard to follow, particularly because both the narration and the points-of-view are inconsistent between each other. Of course, there are some other characters, but talking about them would end up being too spoiler-ish.ĭespite being released in 1998, the themes portrayed in the anime are still surprisingly modern, either because they are still relevant, such as the whole computer and communication dilemma, or because they are universal, such as questioning one’s self-identity.

Her family is also unusual, her father is the only member that seems to care about her, but is a computer-nut, her mom is indifferent to her and only cares about her older sister, who is the most “normal” person in the household. Lain seemingly is an ordinary girl who is a bit shy and doesn’t understand computers as a whole, but all of this starts to change after a few bizarre happenings, including the suicide of one of her classmates, and her true nature starts to be revealed. Because of this, the hacker culture, prevalent in the time computers started to appear, is still fairly important and is practiced by a lot of people, such as the father, Yasuo Iwakura, of our protagonist, Lain Iwakura. It takes place in a world slightly different from ours, in which the sum of all the communication technologies is called Wired and is similar to a virtual reality-world.
